Title: nano image does not reboot un APU3
Post by: ech1965 on June 26, 2017, 02:37:39 pm
Hello !

I received my brand new APU3 [1]  a few days ago

I tried to install opnsense on a brand new sd card.

* I downloaded [2]
* uncompressed
* dd if=[2] of=/dev/rdisk2 bs=1m # on my mabookpro
* Put the sd card in the APU
* booted
* configured using the wizard
* reboot

** Kaboom: the  /\| wheel is spinning very slowly and ends with a message 'Failed to load kernel' ( some characters doubled, other separated by a blank space...)

I managed to use the "installer" version ( burn a usb flashdrive and installed on the sd card ) : This works OK

Any idea why the gear dos not reboot ?

Thanks in advance
Etienne

Followup

I tried with another SD card ... and it works

SD card failing on reboot:  http://www.pcengines.ch/sd4b.htm

https://github.com/opnsense/core/issues/1195

Working sd CARD:

16 GB "medion" card..

4GB pcengines
Disk Size:                4.0 GB (3980394496 Bytes) (exactly 7774208 512-Byte-Units)
   Device Block Size:        512 Bytes

16GB medion
Disk Size:                15.9 GB (15926820864 Bytes) (exactly 31107072 512-Byte-Units)
   Device Block Size:        512 Bytes

And bell ringing ?

In the meantime I used the installer on a memstick to install on the 4GB sdcard ... no issue

Is there any other configuration to implement in addition to mounting /tmp and /var... on a memory disk ?
