Title: Internet slow on lan interface
Post by: dgiorgio on April 24, 2017, 04:18:20 am
My internet is 50mbps download and 30mbps upload.
But when opnsense is the gateway, it gets 3mbps of download and upload.

what's up?
I saw that other people have this same problem, both in pfsense and opnsense, but I did not see any solution.

Can anybody help me?

Is there a diagnosis, where can I check the reason for the slowness?

You really need to give us something to work with.
What hardware are you using, what type of connection do you have, how have you tested (real world) that you have 50down/30up?

Router -> proxmox -> opnsense (proxmox) -> container (proxmox)

The container connection to opnsense, is through the internal proxmox network.
When I connect the container directly to the router, without going through opnsense, I can use the maximum speed of 50down / 30up.

The type of network interface is Virtio, I've already tried putting e1000, but it still has the same problem.

Try disabling all hardware offloading under Interfaces > Settings

I do not know if the problem is connecting the "container" to opnsense, or lan (interface) to wan (interface) in opnsense.

I'm having the same problem.  Except I'm running on one of these:

Mini PC J1900 Quad core CPU, 4 LAN (Intel)
with 8 gigs of ram and 500gig ssd.

The cpu doesn't get over 10% and only using 14% of the 8 gigs.

So I just switched from uverse (75mps) to spectrum because you know, who doesn't want 300mps internet for $20 more per month.   If shutdown both spectrum ARIS modem and the opnsense FW, turn it back on, the very first speed test is 300mps down, 20 mps up.  Any subsequent tests after that I get 100mps down, 20 mps up??  I've checked the MTUs (with a laptop directly attached to the ARIS) and it's 1500.
