Title: Getting started - GUI reachable from live DVD boot but not once rebooted
Post by: karl2 on April 20, 2017, 12:29:16 am
Originall posted in General Discussion subforum
Kia ora from Aotearoa/New Zealand. If anyone has the patience to point me towards a work around/fix for this that would be much appreciated!

-what I have tried:
1. disabling pf "pfctl-d" (this works with the live DVD boot but not when booting from the HD once DVD removed)
2. reassigning interfaces and IP addresses.
3. MAC addresses for NICs are verified
4. I can ping (from a terminal in my linux box) a static IP assigned to the LAN - however interestingly only the one I initially assigned to the LAN. In other words if I reassign a different static IP to the LAN I can not ping that, but can still ping the original IP I assigned to it. As the original IP I assigned to it is not the default IP I wondered whether a complete reinstall may be in order. Is that an option? How would I do a complete reinstall so that all the config files go back to default?
5. Tried resetting to factory defaults (4) via the console, and then reassigning Interfaces and IP adresses, however interestingly this changes nothing!!
6. As suggested by a previous post in the 17.1.4 production forum, I am attempting to install 16.7 and then to see if this can be configured and subsequently upgraded.
7. This is an improvement in that I can log in without disabling pf first, however appeared to hang after changing password and then no longer allow access to console IP. Now trying reinstall again.

Have you tried installing opnsense or are you simply trying to use it via live cd?

I'm assuming you did install, also assuming amd64:

Did you use GPT/UEFI or MBR? If only one, try the other. The boot console output matters here to pinpoint where it may be "stuck".

Did you install 17.1 or 17.1.4? If 17.1, try the 17.1.4 images as they have trouble with UEFI bootup.

Cheers,

Reinstalled earlier version. Then upgraded. Problem solved.
