Title: [SOLVED] Step for installation on APU2C4 & mSATA
Post by: Ciokko on March 18, 2017, 05:47:33 pm
Hi ALL,
I need help to make an installation;
I have the hardware in the topic and a Windows 10 machine, without mSATA adapter;

Can I install OPNSense via serial port?
or
Can prepare on the windows 10 pc a usb key and then start it on my APU system, saying to install on the mSATA drive?

Thanks for your help

Hi Ciokko,

Have you gone through the steps in this page? https://docs.opnsense.org/manual/install.html

If so, where are you getting stuck?

"[Solved] Error mounting 19 trying installing OPNsense on APU2C4"
http://www.pcengines.info/forums/?page=post&id=D7DD920F-77ED-4156-9638-D4C5ADB63102 (http://www.pcengines.info/forums/?page=post&id=D7DD920F-77ED-4156-9638-D4C5ADB63102)

Short answer:
1)  Drop to the loader prompt from the FreeBSD/OPNsense ASCII boot logo menu (menu option 3)
2)  type:  set kern.cam.boot_delay="10000"
3)  type:  boot

Hi Alphabet Soup, tnx for reply.
I followed the steps and the system tells OK ... but after the boot command, the result is always the same (error 19) :-(

Boot delay is permanent for install media since 17.1. Try to use a non-USB3 flash drive. That usually helped.

Hi Franco, tnx for your post:
Currently I have no old usb ... I try it I'll find one.
I was thinking of buying a mSATA adapter to connect to my Windows PC to make all while avoiding the USB on APU... I do not know well how to do it, I'm going to read me something and then I update you.

That works too when writing the Nano image on the SSD. The image is only 3G but expands to full disk size after the first boot.

Note that the serial image is an installer media, so that shouldn't be written to the SSD.

Franco

Hi all,
I left the boot from USB and instead used this adapter to write a nano release on mSATA (directly from my windows pc):
https://www.amazon.it/dp/B00K1FEYAG/ref=pe_386201_124256341_TE_dp_1

By doing so, all OK! after 2 minutes.
Thank you all for the support :-)
