Title: Static address on WAN causes crash on boot up
Post by: kristiandg on May 19, 2015, 04:26:49 pm
Good morning - first off, forgive me - I'm new to this distro (been using PFSense for a few years - though I prefer this interface - its more "friendly"). :)

In trying to duplicate what I currently have deployed on our test box, I literally did a stare-n-compare for each page and ultimately caused a crash on the box (of all the messages that were displayed on VGA, "panic" and "config" were the dominant ones.  This didn't occur until I assigned a static IP to the WAN (our default config that I was making uses DHCP).  I've attached the config I used right before it died - the only change that has to be made to it is to assign a static IP and it "should" cause the crash - if not, then it may also be hardware specific.  In our case, we're using EM0 & 1 for the two on-board gig NICs and IGB 0-3 for the OPT interfaces (for Super micro aoc-sg-i4).

The only fix I found thus far was to reinstall the distro completely, as when you can get it to boot, the menu fails to respond (screen refreshes with the config error message again w/o taking you into the option you chose - not all, but most options - including FACTORY DEFAULT).

Like I said, sorry, I'm new.

Hi,
I can not reproduce your install problem here.
My latest upgrade from OPNsense 15.1.9-LibreSSL to latest 15.1.11.1 did run smooth.

Be careful to verify your downloaded images with the help of the various hash summs.
You maybe only got unlucky and downloaded a corrupted image?

Best thing would be a fresh download of the latest 15.1.11.1 for OpenSSL flavour and the 15.1.9-LibreSSL flavour and then a console tiggered upgrade.

Please try it and report your results, here. Good luck!

Hi kristiandg,

sorry for the late response. Do you have a crash report from the GUI available?

If I understand correctly you configured everything by hand in the GUI and did not try to import the config.xml?

Cheers,
Franco
