Title: Installation troubles
Post by: n4m3l355 on December 20, 2016, 11:33:41 am
Hello
Frist of all, thank you for this forum.
For a while i run pfsense on my micro pc. After a view troubles, i want to try and install opnsense.

Unfortunately i can not install opnsense on my Zbox CI325 nano
https://www.zotac.com/us/product/mini_pcs/zbox-ci325-nano#download

I make an installation with Rufus, for a USB device version 16.7.

My Zbox has a 4gb compact flash disk as storage.

It will boot from the USB device, can make a choice how to install (I just wait 10 seconds).
After a while i see this in my screen.

What do I wrong?

Hi there,

The instructions here should help:

https://github.com/opnsense/tools/issues/28

The issue is fixed in the upcoming 17.1 images.

You could also flash the Nano image on the CF card, no install needed. :)

Cheers,
Franco

Thank you.
When I installed the nano version, there is only a blinking cursor during booting.

Weird, because Nano has both a VGA and a serial console enabled. I reckon you were on VGA? Did you see the OPNsense boot splash screen?

I get the same error on my Lex 3V900 when i try to install OPNSense from usb stick to internal ssd.
After many tries i setting the usb speed into the bios to 1.1 and use an usb dvd-drive to install. Thats work for me!

Are you sure, that you install OPNSense on an CF-Card!? I'm took a quick look into the specs of the Zotac nano. I didn't find an CF-Slot in into the description? Do you use an SATA2CF-Konverter?
I use a Lex 3V700 on my home FW with a 4 GB CF-card. I simpy wrote the OPNSense nano image with rufus to the CF-card. Afterputting the cf into the slot the lex 3V700 is booting up without any problems (vga)

I set the USB speed to 1.1 it won't work.
I don't have an external DVD drive for testing it.

It's a SD card slot
If I use Rufus to make a Nano version to SD, my system wil not boot. It's stuck on an blinking cursor, without seeing a bootscreen.

Tried even a lot of different USB drives, SD cards, Opnsense versions, and PC's
All the same problems.

I could not seem to make this work with rufus, I had to resort to using an USB dvd rom to install.

Rufus and image boot problems are so prevalent, the best advice here is to not use Rufus. Any Unix-based "dd" write of the memstick or nano image works fine when the hardware accepts the image. That isn't always the case, but that is for other reasons way less easy to solve.
