Title: 4g using huaweii me909u-521
Post by: dk14 on December 06, 2016, 04:52:35 pm
there was some talk about these cards being supported in the current release. I do not see the card as useable within opnsense and wondered what the current level of support might be, whether there are any patches or config lines needed to make the device work?

Have you checked whether this device requires usb_modeswitch?

http://www.draisberghof.de/usb_modeswitch/

That's more often the issue rather than support of a chipset: newer hardware tries to hide the modem from the system.  ;)

Cheers,

yes and no, i did this with Ubuntu and detected the device no issue, but sadly no dice with freebsd. even without this  modeswitch dmesg does not display the same device info in opnsense as it did with ubuntu. I see no reference to huawei or device.

so rather than more statements from me, how can I confirm whether there is actual support for this card in the current release (or the upstream BSD on which it is based)?

Hi dk14

i've the same modem as you.

Did you try looking in Interface-> Point-to-Point -> Devices
then klick the Add-Button on the right corner.
i can see the huawei modem in the dropdown list (but there are 5 of them)

Could not try it, i'm waiting for my antennes to test it.
