Title: WebGUI copy of slice - embedded OPNsense (nanoOPNsense) cf card install
Post by: chol on November 24, 2016, 09:12:02 am
Hi there!

I did speed up the upgrade of my 32bit Alix 2c3/2d3 nano-OPNsense machines' cf card installs by use of a 64bit Intel atom D510 machine, see:

Code: [Select]
Versions OPNsense 16.7.9-i386
                FreeBSD 10.3-RELEASE-p11
                LibreSSL 2.4.4
Updates Click to check for updates.
CPU Type Intel(R) Atom(TM) CPU D510 @ 1.66GHz (4 cores)

Question:
Can I copy (kernel-) slice 1 to slice 2 on the 4GB/8GB cf cards via OPNsense's webGUI? Or is it done automatically?

Kind regards, chol

We don't use the second slice, but it does have a fully-fledged install. There are no means to sync the config from one to the other. This needs to be done manually by copying /conf to the other slice.

Some talk was done to revive it, but that was only talk. I would eventually like to remove the second slice in 17.1 or 17.7 for our installs as we haven't used it in 2 years and it's keeping us from using 2 GB of disk space.

EDIT: the background for removal is to use a "growfs" image, that is minimum size fitting a 1GB device, expanding to whatever is available on first boot. That way we could side-step problems people were having with 4GB devices which were too small to put the 4GB image onto. :)
