Title: MPD5 PPTP not working on 16.7.6
Post by: AutoManager on October 26, 2016, 01:54:50 am
We have installed MPD5 PPTP on version 16.7.6 and for some reason the PPTP virtual interface does not appear to have been created.

Any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated.

Hi there,

Normally, saving your settings once from the PPTP configuration page should do that?

Cheers,

Thats just it, I think I've got everything setup correctly, but if I drop to the shell, I don't see any ng# interfaces when I run ifconfig & I get the continual "pptps: bind: Can't assign requested address" entries in the pptps log.

One thing I also notice, the mpd.conf file lists the pptp server IP (the gateway requested in the web-gui) as a /32 address in the ippool range and there's no place to put a subnet/network mask of any sort in the web-gui. In examples I've seen googling around, there's a reasonable subnet/network mask used with the pptp server IP.

> pptps: bind: Can't assign requested address

This means you need to change the server IP to a static local IP of your OPNsense, you can also use an alias for that. That requirement changed from MPD4 to MPD5.

And as far as subnet/network mask goes, that was always the case: you specify the start address of the client IP pool and specify how many clients you want to support.

The state of L2TP, PPTP and PPPoE servers was kept as close to the original code as possible instead of ending up deleting them. There a few users / use cases and that's good, but no funding for improvements.

Possible improvements are plenty, especially with user management implemented using the native/central OPNsense access management instead of doing user / password combinations manually for each server.

Franco

Could you pls help with this issue, I have created pppoe server instance on opt2 interface having ip (192.168.200.1/24)
and created pppoe server instance and gave it ip 192.168.200.250
and also went and created virtual ip (alias type) of  ip (192.168.200.251/32) yet I cant get any replies on my client requesting pppoe auth.
am i missing anything?

You either need to run the server on 192.168.200.1/24 or 192.168.200.251/24, otherwise it will not work. Check your logs and make sure you are on a recent OPNsense version. :)

Can we please focus on a single topic? It's hard to gather all your info from different forum threads. Thank you.

Thanks, I just wanted to make sure that MPD5 steps are done right. I have put them in order in my other post
