Title: How to start the GUI
Post by: audiofilet on August 06, 2016, 02:16:10 am
I read the installation instructions. I installed OPNsense on a hard drive. I got to the 13-item menu, but didn't see any option to start the GUI. I tried option-11, but that didn't work. How do I start the GUI?

That's the web interface option you're talking about , isn't it? You get to it by going to a browser window and entering the IP address of your OPNsense server, have you done that and are you saying it doesn't work?

Oh boy, I should know better than to post at the end of a long day. I could have worded that much better.

No, I cannot access the GUI from a PC plugged into the OPNsense out-NIC, but that wasn't my question. Right now there is no Internet access via the OPNsense out-NIC. I'm sure I did something wrong, so I will wipe the drive and start over. What I was actually asking is whether there was a way to start the GUI on the same machine as OPNsense is running, for example, option-14 (start the GUI right here). That would save me the trouble of walking around the corner to the other PC. I was just being lazy. Now that I'm awake I will plug a laptop into the OPNsense out-NIC, what I should have done at first. Sorry for the wasted bits.

Hello audiofilet,

just to be sure. Your opnsense should have at least two network cards ("NIC"). After installation you can use the text based menu of the opnsense machine to dedicate one NIC to WAN (Internet) and the other NIC to LAN (network for your PCs). Let's say, you set the opnsense IP of the LAN interface to 192.168.0.1 and you activated DHCP with the range 192.168.0.100 - 192.168.0.129.

This would be the right moment to connect a PC to the LAN Interface, get the the IP address and start a browser with the URL https://192.168.0.1

Here is the GUI of opnsense. And please note: This will not work on the WAN interface!
