Title: OPNSense client of Synology UPS Service
Post by: guest37520 on March 21, 2023, 11:53:00 am
Hi Everybody,

I'm noob on OPNSense so please be patient..
I setup OPNSense (latest version installed) to create a failover line on 4G to be added to my regular, wired, Internet connection. From this standpoint everything seems to be working perfectly fine and stable.

I wanted anyway to add also UPS support to OPNSense box in case of power outages and here, despite of several days of googling, I was not able to make it work.

In my setup I have a Synology Diskstation 720+ connected, via USB, to an UPS. UPS is powering also the mini-pc running OPNSense. The DS is running a NUT server and I can connect to it successfully from a Windows Server. I wanted OPNSense to connect to the very same nut server running on the Synology DS.

Username and password I use on the Windows server are upsmon and secret, the default ones.

I'm very confused about how to configure the os-nut plugin to make it connect as nut client to my DS720.
Anybody can help ?

Thanks in advance !

EDIT ----------------

If I execute

upsc ups@192.168.0.10

I can successfully see the listing of all the parameters of my ups nut server running on the DS.

I can successfully see the listing of all the parameters of my ups nut server running on the DS.

Is that from the OPNsense shell? If not, did you add the OPNsense IP to the allowed list on Synology? Look under Permitted Synology NAS Devices in the config. https://kb.synology.com/en-us/DSM/help/DSM/AdminCenter/system_hardware_ups?version=7

Thanks Bart,

I confirm the command "upsc" was run from OPNSense shell (SSH Console). Address of OPNSense is already setup in the permitted IPs on Synology DSM UPS service configuration.

My doubt is, where do I put:

- TPC/IP Address of Synology DS box (acting as Nut server)
- username/password to be used to access DSM nut server
- Any other parameter to tell OPNSense at which percentage of UPS battery to gracefully shutdown etc.

Never mind, I found it ! There was a drop-down list at the top. It allowed me to enter the address of the Nut server the username and the password. Now I can see the parameters in the diagnostic window.
Much easier than expected !!! Shame on me.
