Title: DEC740 BIOS upgrades
Post by: Solaris17 on February 21, 2023, 06:40:18 am
Hello! long time no see.

I ran my own SFF pc with opnsense for a long time, some VMs still. I donated from time to time, but with the fans failing in my SFF I decided to purchase a DEC740 to further support the project.

I am picky about making sure I am upto date though. Are there updates or resources to download and flash the hardware's BIOS?

For those curious my device came in and I opened it.

Examining manually the bios available at: https://docs.opnsense.org/hardware/bios.html

Is version: 05.32.50.0014-A10.22

Code: [Select]
BIOS Version : 05.32.50.0014-A10.22
BIOS Build Date : 02/18/2022
Processor Type : AMD Ryzen Embedded V1500B
System Memory Speed : 2400 MHz

However on my particular DEC740

the BIOS version is: 05.32.50.0014-A10.24

Code: [Select]
BIOS Version : 05.32.50.0014-A10.24
BIOS Build Date : 12/14/2022
Processor Type : AMD Ryzen Embedded V1500B
System Memory Speed : 2400 MHz

I found this by connecting my eeprom reader. The chip is a MXIC MX25U6432F: https://www.mxic.com.tw/en-us/flash-memory-solutions/extended-temperature/Pages/spec.aspx?p=MX25U6432F&m=Ext+Temperature&n=PM2850

In something like AS/NeoProgrammer or your flavor of flash software the following 1.8v chip profiles worked.

- MX25U6473F
- MX25U6435F

I flashed the original BIOS back as it was newer.

Interesting, I would not have expected that.

@franco: What was changed from 05.32.50.0014-A10.22 to 05.32.50.0014-A10.24, respectively: why has the update not been published?
