Title: Installing OPNSense using a Fritz!Box in Bridge Node
Post by: WillyA on June 09, 2022, 08:31:33 am
We use EDPNet and for the past 10 years we used a Sagem Modem and Smoothwall Express 3.

Over the long weekend everything turned to brown stuff. We got a Fritz!Box form EDPNet but it doesn't work with Smoothwall.
OPNSense is highly recommended. We have no internet ither than on Wireless on my really olf FuJitsu laptop, so getting the basics working is URGENT.

we have a /29 subnet and use 5 IP Addresses these are Port Forwarded to 5 x static 192.168.0.0/24 private LAN. Eberything (except the PCs run on VMWare ESX 6

I assume to get the show in the road, we set the Fritz into Bridge and install the OPNSense software on on new virtual machine. I have plenty of space for 1GB RAM and 100 GB Hard drive. install 2 x NICs one to Internet and the other to local.

From what I understand it finds the WAN and LAN automatically.

What Next? Once I can get it to dial out and connect to EDPNet setting up the rest seems intuitive. My Gateway on Smoothwall was 192.168.0.254. I want to keep it the same if Possible

If I can get a step by step from end if install to establishing the connection to EDPNet, I thing the rest will be fairly simple.

BUT, maKING USE OF THE MORE ESOTERIC THINGS THAT sMOOTHWALL NEVER HAD, MUGHT BRING ME BACK HER MANY MORE TIMES.

BTW we don't use DHCP at all and we don't use IPV6 at this stage. Keep it simple it's the VLAN part that I'm not familiar with.

sORRY for typos, caps etc. This laptop has seen better days!

Worked on it all day today and just a waste of a day. It does,nt connect, no matter what we do. Read all the docs, watched the video, surfed for answer, NOTHING.

So much for EASY. so much for support
