Title: [SOLVED] Intrusion Detection - System Crash Everytime Adjust the Settings
Post by: interkrome on April 06, 2016, 01:18:27 pm
Hi !

I'm having this scenario whereby every time i update something such as disable/enable one or more rulesets, change the action of the ruleset, amend schedule, etc. the system crash.

In System --> parameters --> network, i have checked :

    Disable hardware checksum offload
    Disable hardware TCP segmentation offload
    Disable hardware large receive offload

I'm using :

OPNsense 16.1.8-i386
FreeBSD 10.2-RELEASE-p14
OpenSSL 1.0.2g 1 Mar 2016

Intel(R) Celeron(R) D CPU 430 @ 1.80GHz
2GB of RAM

WAN : RealTek 8168/8111 B/C/CP/D/DP/E/F/G PCIe Gigabit Ethernet
LAN : 3Com 3c905C-TX Fast Etherlink XL

Should just select LAN only instead of LAN & WAN. Now everything is ok

This happens to me as well on the WAN side. My speeds are also atrocious, which surprises me a little. I go usually when under usage from 90/90 to around 16/12 with IPS enabled on WAN. Shortly after I will drop connection. I continuously drop connection (up/down/up/down) until I disable IPS completely.

Given you seem to be experiencing the same issues im inclined to believe it may be our NICs. I run dual Realtek RTL8111G  chips on my router. Which is a shuttle DS81.

CPU: I3 4130
8GB RAM
32GB SSD

I went into this knowing realtek wasn't really fantastic as far as NICs go. I use intel cards on my servers. I didn't expect it not to work with IPS though, which was a pretty major feature I was looking forward too. Thankfully however OPNsense has been the best platform iv used (it was also the last I tried) so its not a total deal breaker.
