Title: HP Proliant Throughput Issue
Post by: MikeyMan on December 19, 2021, 10:39:17 am
Hi,

I have one HP Proliant DL360 G8 that have throughput issue.
When I run CentOS or Ubuntu I do get over 950 Mbps but when I use OPNsense 21.7.7-amd64 I only get 270Mbps.
I have testet the build in Nic's (Broadcom) and also Intel Nic's but it still only performing 270Mbps.

I have run the speed test from a client on the LAN side and also directly on the firewall wan side, and I get the same result.

I also have tested this, https://teklager.se/en/knowledge-base/opnsense-performance-optimization/
with no luck.

Do any one have any ideas what to do next ?

PS. "Also my Cisco asa 5510 is performing perfect, it almost getting max throughput over my internet link."

Regars

1Gb/s should be easily achievable on quite modest hardware let alone enterprise gear like yours. What Intel NICs have you tried? And what are your other settings - are you using IPS, traffic shaping, anything else different from default?

I have this nic's,
quad port - Intel Ethernet Server Adapter I340 (pci-e)
quad port - Broadcom BCM5719, (build in)

The installation are default, no extra service are up and running.
And I have try this setting but that did not do anything.

hw.igb.rx_process_limit="-1"
hw.igb.tx_process_limit="-1"
legal.intel_igb.license_ack="1"

Ok. Don’t really know what to suggest then other than making sure bios and software are latest version and maybe try to verify you’ve got a genuine Intel nic? That’s mainstream enterprise hardware and should be able to run 1Gb/s easily and should also be well supported.

Maybe someone else can add.

You mainly run speedtest-cli from LAN to a speedtest server in the Internet , don't you ?

What Is the type/technology of your connection  to ISP ?
