Title: My First Opnsense Build with an Atom C2758
Post by: dashpuppy on September 12, 2021, 03:30:05 am
Not really a newb to pfsense / opnsense BUT new to this forum :)

Just won a new mother board on ebay today. Supermicro MBD-A1SRI-2758F-O with the Atom C2758 8 core cpu. Ordered 16 gigs of DDR Ecc memory for it, 2 x8 to get better channel speed. Not sure of what chassis i will end up with, maybe a supermicro front panel 1u rack mount case & pcie - dual 10g port nic.

For now, i'll just use a pair of 1gig nic's on the board. I have Telus business Fibre @ home 1gig symmetrical internet.

I'll post pictures of my build as I go. Parts have shipped, now to wait.

I'm using pretty much the same board (A1SAi-2750F ), with a stock Supermicro chassis, 2x SSD (ZFS-Raid) and 32GB of RAM (MultiGW-LB, some shaped-VLANs VPN, Proxy, captive, etc.)... since 2015.

Recently - this morning in fact, I had to reinstall after a successful Bios-Update (yes, there is one dating from 2019 with spectre and meltdown - did not see this, as I thought: there won't be any new bios till the end of things). But update worked, booting afterwards did not  (don't know for shure what it was) - reinstall was easy, restore from backup-config simple...

Even got a new IPMI-Firmware with a HTML-KVM... also this morning... and got a serial for the inband-bios-update (if anyone is interested on unlocking the IPMI-BIOS-Update-feature, PM).

It's a sturdy little board with loads of reserve in power, has not let me down since 2015.
