Title: No console menu with serial connection
Post by: fordprefect on March 07, 2016, 11:56:52 pm
Since upgrading from OPNsense 15 to 16 I fail to see the serial console menu. My terminal emulator shows all console messages when booting until this entry:

 WAN (pppoe0)    -> v4/PPPoE: (my WAN IP)
 LAN (re2)       -> v4: (my local IP)

but nothing more from this point on.

My settings in System - Admin Access - Serial communications:
Serial Terminal: "Enables the first serial port with 115200/8/N/1 by default ..." checked
Serial Speed: 115200
Primary Console: Serial Console
Console Menu: "Password protect the console menu" not checked

I'm using currently OPNsense 16.1.5_1 on a PC Engines APU Board.

The only working solution seems to be to reinstall OPNSense. After that the console menu works as expected. By the way I didn't restore my configuration backup but instead set up the preferences from scratch.

There was a hiccup with the admin access settings that could cause the serial console to disappear when settings were saved from there. It was fixed in 16.1.5.

Could it be that you made changes there that would have caused this?
