Title: Shadowsocks not working with Linode or am I stupid?^^
Post by: Eruainur on May 03, 2021, 12:26:08 am
Okay guys, I need some help, either because something is not working right or because I'm stupid.

I'm trying to connect my opnsense shadowsocks client with an instance set up on linode (See Screenshots) but for some reason it is not connecting at all. The two settings pages on either side looked fairly easy to comprehend, yet I cant get a connection working even if I test it with Proxyfier .

Do I need a special firewall rule or am I missing something else?

Yes, you'll need to allow the inbound traffic to hit your opnsense machine at 192.168.1.1.

IPv4 TCP/UDP allowed from [$lan_network or single address] to $opnsense_lan_address should do it.

Also you should reconsider using the standard proxy port of 1080 if allowing traffic from your entire network, as doing so might allow for unintended egress of malicious traffic that looks for proxies available on the gateway.
