Title: How to test my Opnsense setup in local network
Post by: bharathmsd on April 12, 2021, 07:17:55 am
Hi

I made my OPNsense setup in a VM and its running fine. I am new to the network stuffs. How i can test the OPNsense in my localnetwork. Currently I added Icap and ClamAV plugin to my setup. As per the tutorials in Youtube, tried to download a EICAR test file my Opnsense setup doesn't detecting it.

Thanks in advance.

How i can test the OPNsense in my localnetwork.
Very fundamental question. My suggestion is to passthrough dual or quad port Intel NIC to the VM, assign the desired ports as WAN and LAN, put your ISP in the WAN and your home network in the LAN port via switch. Then test whatever you want...

You may want to disable the block local networks checkbox on the WAN interface.

Also, your WAN address should not be in the ranges of your LAN ports. This can cause issues with firewall rules and routing.
