Post by: juaromu on April 07, 2021, 08:48:08 pm
After running latest update Suricata (in-line) mode is not starting and showing this error:

Code: [Select]
2021-04-08T04:20:36 suricata[67279] [100456] <Error> -- [ERRCODE: SC_ERR_NETMAP_CREATE(263)] - opening devname netmap:vtnet1^ failed: Cannot allocate memory
2021-04-08T04:20:35 suricata[67279] [100456] <Notice> -- opened netmap:vtnet1/R from vtnet1: 0x41e994c2900
2021-04-08T04:20:13 suricata[44959] [100167] <Notice> -- This is Suricata version 5.0.6 RELEASE running in SYSTEM mode

The firewall is running on 4GB of RAM and 2GB of swap added. Suricata was experiencing no issues prior to this update.

Hi,

In my case Suricata stopped abruptly after starting with the same error. So I found out the reason why it happened so. The problem was with Netmap. Snort and Suricata in in-line mode both had issues with Netmap.

Errr, Snort is neither in OPNsense nor has it an inline mode on FreeBSD.

Cheers,
