Title: dhclient release/renew
Post by: mihak on January 22, 2021, 09:12:59 pm
Is there a GUI option of DHCP release and DHCP renew of IP address for dhclient service?

Scenario:
My ISP has several 'dirty' public IP addresses in their dhcp pool that are blacklisted with various streaming providers as being VPN endpoints. Whenever my public IP lease expires and ISP dhcp servers assign a new public IP, it is a lottery: some IPs are blacklisted by HBO, some are blacklisted by Netflix. I need to release/renew public address several times to get assigned something that is clean.

Currently I use the ISP-provided Actiontec router that has Renew and Release buttons built-in their GUI interface - I swap OPNSense out, cycle through public IP addresses on Actiontec until I get one that works with streaming providers.

How to do this on OPNSense - GUI or ssh?

Interfaces>Overview>WAN interface>Reload

(or if that doesn’t get you a new lease, hit Release first)

Uh... Doh...  Thanks... :)

This feature should be part of each dhcp-enabled interface page - that's where I was looking for it!

Fair, it is a little buried...
