Hello,
RC1 is not yet advised on my box. This according to the bug mentionned in the announcment. Will there be a fix (e.g. analogue to the update to 20.7., where first another update had to be done before the update to 20.7 was possible)?
-
RC updates are for development versions only as soon as they become available to development versions... which isn't today or tomorrow :)
Remember: updates bring updates, but you have to wait for the next one eventually to get an update.
Cheers,
Franco

Yo Franco,
aaaaah, have to switch to Development?
Just remembered, there was already an update for a update, where the update without update not updated :)
what a tongue breaker ;)

Upgrade is possible when 20.7.8 (again: development version only) arrives so please sit tight unless you want to fight with upgrading manually...
Cheers,
Franco

Hey Franco,
I decided to spin up a duplicate instance to use for testing upgrades which I have just switched over to development from Prod but when I ran an update it only grabbed a 21.1.a_296-amd64 package? Is that right or am I jumping the gun a bit.
Don't mind me :P Just read the pinned post haha.

Hi
Newbie question pls: What if I do these steps on some 20.7.7 non-production box ?
# sets/kernel-xxx
opnsense-update -i -kr 21.1.r1
# sets/base-xxx
opnsense-update -i -br 21.1.r1
# sets/packages-xxx
opnsense-update -i -r 21.1.r1 -u
pkg update
# these must follow after opnsense-update -u
opnsense-update -i -r 21.1.r1 -B
opnsense-update -i -r 21.1.r1 -P
pkg update
# and check
cat /usr/local/etc/pkg/repos/OPNsense.conf
# Note: reboot when asked to
I did it already and I think the box is fine and I've got it updated to RC1.
Thanks
T.

Ok, if you must please use the builtin mechanisms... If you do a loose sequence on a major OS update the box will not come back.
# opnsense-update -iur 21.1.r1
# opnsense-shell reboot
Note that "-i" means no signature checks, so download integrity and authenticity is not guaranteed (but will be on the development version of 20.7.8 when the fingerprint is introduced).
Cheers,
Franco

Successfully upgraded to OPNsense 21.1.r1-amd64. But Sensei does not provide a binary for it, I had to remove all SunnyValley stuff.

I have 20.7 that will not update. I have tried command line opnsense-update -i and pkg update or upgrade with zero success. It their a command to force upgrade and take off all qualifications...no sig no fingerprint etc...just force update??
Anyone know how to force the upgrade to happen?
Fails with this no madder what I do.
pkg_static: https://pkg.opnsense.org/FreeBSD:12:amd64/20.7/latest/meta.txz: No address record
This was retype so I might not have have to 100% correct but it will give someone an idea on how to bypass the upgrade issues I am having!
-
Did you try a different mirror?
-
Yes I have....I haft to force a upgrade. It will not upgrade or update. That is the error file not found.
-
And you unlocked the update first? DNS working properly? If you google that message those are the things to check.

Yes to all of that. I am posting this via the router right now. I just need to find a way to force the update or upgrade. So it will stop looking for the files that are not their.
