Title: New setup - what cron jobs should one run?
Post by: kss on September 30, 2020, 05:42:08 am
I am wondering if there is a setup guide somewhere that instructs new users what cron jobs they should be running once the firewall is up and running... I am thinking services such as GeoIP blocking, checking for firmware updates, etc.

Any suggestions on "must have" cron jobs for a fairly vanilla installation? Thanks.

None. Follow OPNsense on twitter and monitor these forums for issues before you upgrade production firewalls.

The FW is able to enter some jobs for you.  Case in point, suricata needs its rules updated.  When you use the package and configure it, the FW automatically inserts a cron job to update the definitions for you.

You can also create your own if needed,  (it can get a little complex) but that is not recommended for someone in your position.

In the chance you want to have a schedule reboot, backup, and a few other things that you may want, check out what options are listed.
