Title: Post 20.7 CPU Usage & CPU Widget
Post by: UKQuirkyGeek on August 02, 2020, 10:21:11 pm
Hi,

I've been using OPNsense for several years now and all has been good.
Today I've upgraded from 20.1 to 20.7 and have noticed a couple of issues.

1) the CPU widget doesn't show any temperatures when the option ' Only show first found CPU core temperature' is selected. Deselecting this shows all the cores as expected.

2) CPU usage has gone through the roof. My home moderate system hardly registered CPU when idle upto v20.1. After the upgrade it's constantly above 50% when doing nothing.

3) CPU core temperature has jumped from around 60 degrees C to high 90's when idling (I assume related to point 2 above)

Any thoughts greatly appreciated.
Thanks,

Gareth

Hi,
i can confirm that there is something wrong with the CPU core temperature widget.
After upgrading to 20.7 temps are gone like on UKQuirkyGeek system but deselecting 'Only show first found CPU core temperature' did not fix it for my system, 20.7 is not showing any temps for me anymore.

Until now issue 2 and 3 seem not to occur to my system.

Tested with:
OPNsense 20.7-amd64
FreeBSD 12.1-RELEASE-p7-HBSD
LibreSSL 3.0.2
AMD GX-412TC SOC (4 cores)

My CPU usage has been the same, ram usage has went down somehow.  My CPU temp widget is still working as expected.  I am on Intel if that matters maybe it's an AMD bug?

Temperature display works for me (dual core, can disply core 0, or core0 + core 1)
Intel based system.
Ensure that the correct option is selected (acpi, amd or intel)

So having left the system overnight the CPU usage and the high temperatures appear to have settled and back to normal. I can only assume there was some post upgrade process running.

The only issue I now have is the CPU widget temps not visible when selecting to display only the first core.  I've tried all three of the temperature sensors with the same issue. Choosing to display all the cores works fine.
