Title: opnsense routing for ipv6 dies once a day..?
Post by: 5SpeedFun on June 10, 2020, 02:26:25 pm
Hi all,

I was wondering if anyone else has seen this issue.  I have Comcast Business with static ip block (ip4 /29, ipv6 /56 - both static) and ipv6 dies once a day.  Let me explain:

I am using DHCPv6-PD and requesting a /59.  This works fantastically.  I have "prevent release" checked everything is working great.  I have unbound working as my recursive dns resolver.

Most mornings I wake up an I notice ipv6 is not working.  If I go to Reporting -> Health my "green bar" is non-existant for ipv6 traffic.  ipvfoo extension in chrome lists everything as 4 only, even sites that normally load as 6 (eg: facebook).  HOWEVER if I log into the opnsense box itself ipv6 works correctly.  I can do "ping6 ipv6.google.com" from the opnsense box itself, but not from anything behind the opnsense box.  On my lan interface if I stop "tracking interface" and set ipv6 to "none" and then set it back to tracking my internet connection.  Everything is fixed again.  I don't have to make any changes to the clients for ipv6 to start working again, just the opnsense box.

TLDR:
1) Opnsense stops "routing" ipv6.
2) ipv6 originating from opnsense box still works
3) Clients behind opnsense box stop working until ipv6 on LAN interface of opnsense box is bounced.

Any ideas?

I am not even sure where I should be looking to troubleshoot this.

Thanksn for any ideas!

I've moved from pfsense -> opnsense and much prefer opnsense's cleaner look and working bind9 plugin...
