Title: OpnSense on Sophos Red's
Post by: mfpck on April 28, 2020, 07:07:47 pm
Dear all,

I am on the go switchin from Sophos to OpnSense...for many good reasons...

Therefore I thought if it's possible and a good idea- ideally painless to install OpnSense onto my reds (15 and 50) for my remote sites indeed !?

Does anybody has tried that yet and or could share their experineces about that ?

Best & Greets!

Hi, I just saw this post.  I've switched from Sophos too.   I've never used the red devices.  But I did install opnsense on my 110/120 rev 5 devices.  I had no issues installing it.   I would suspect if the hardware is similar.. Intel Atom, HD, ram, I don't think you should have issues.

The one thing I did notice is that the way sophos labeled their ethernet port eth0-eth3 going left to right, opnsense seems to see them left to right.     ie:   When tried to configure my wan which is labeled eth1, I selected eth1, but opnsense saw the labeled eth2 as eth1, and the labeled eth3 as eth0. etc.

hi,

thanks for your hint about the interfaces....my task to bring opnsense on one of my red's is a pretty special task, because I do not get the option to choose from eg. usb stick jetc. just boot into busy box or into sophos where I need to enter root creds. which I don't have....

any ideas, somebody ?
