Title: What wifi dongle is most friendly to OPNsense
Post by: rubantin on November 10, 2015, 07:10:53 pm
I am assembling my new box (Discussed in other thread) It has a USB port. I simply need to find the best option for a USB WIFI adapter that has drivers that work with OPNsense. Range is very important for the office situation.

USB dongle what for? Access point? If so, IMHO a dedicated access point connected to either LAN or DMZ/optional (for guests or cp etc.) is always the way to go. Firewalls tend to last for years, wifi hardware is already old when you buy it. mumimo* and such is evolving so fast, that it's for sure easier to replace an outdated access point than anything connected directly to (or even inside) the firewall - or simply add another one.

* Quite sure they will find anything for "ma" and "me" to form soon a mamemumimo-standard for advertising.. ;)

I use a run(4), but it's a bit hard to trace those vendors/chipsets (at least for me), especially on the low side of the budget.

Some more topics over at the FreeBSD forums. Anything driver/hardware can be looked up there:
