Title: APU home router with wifi
Post by: benjyamon on January 16, 2015, 05:47:01 am
Super excited about this project and have built a new APU http://www.pcengines.ch/apu1d4.htm (http://www.pcengines.ch/apu1d4.htm) router to run OPNsense, and replace our (cr)Apple timecapsule router (where one can't see inside!)

Now when people have "Internet" problems, I'll be able to see exactly what's going on!

I did have to put a switch between the Realtek NIC (WAN interface) and my ISP's wireless dish on the roof https://www.monkeybrains.net/ (https://www.monkeybrains.net/) or else it wouldn't sense the carrier and negiotiate to 100baseTX full-duplex. (This unfortunate hardware bug: https://redmine.pfsense.org/issues/3870 (https://redmine.pfsense.org/issues/3870) caused my WAN nic to downgraded to half-duplex when MonkeyBrains forced the port to 100baseTX full-duplex and I configured OPNsense accordingly, but back on auto (both ends) I still don't know why this APU board wouldn't detect the connection, ifconfig reporting "no carrier" -- which interestingly a MacBook Pro running Yosemite also fails todo. . . not sure what's the root cause(s) there, hence my stick a switch in and be done!)
