Title: Update to 19.7.3 - GUI becomes non-responsive after reboot and login
Post by: chemlud on August 29, 2019, 10:46:58 am
Hi!

Have just now updated two 64bit/LibreSSL full installs (64/120GB SSD, 8GB RAM each) with /var and /tmp in RAM configured (see attached). On both after reboot the GUI initially came back, but after login becomes non-responsive.

I saw in the console

Code: [Select]
swap_pager_getswapspace[32]: failed
some times when the GUI is unresponsive. Had to pull the plug to make the machine work again. After reboot I managed to switch /var and /tmp to SSD (some quick clicks, before it dies away again...) and rebooted, afterwards everything was back to normal.

...is it normal that for /tmp and /var the max. memory shown in the Lobby (11G /12G, see pic above) is larger than physical RAM (8 GB)?

Update: Updated a third system (with /var and /tmp on SSD) and subsequently switched to /var and /tmp in RAM with 2 GB swap. Same result, GUI becomes unresponsive after 1-2 min. No way to access via serial. System unrecoverable (every reboot ends in "Reconfiguring IPv4 on em2: error in in configd communications %s, see syslog for details ", system unresponsive), will have to reinstall.

In addition I tried on one of the initial 2 systems to switch to /tmp and /var in RAM, same result as described above.
