Title: Hardware opstellingen
Post by: jbron on August 13, 2019, 11:23:59 pm
Hi visitors. I´m reletively new to to use OpnSence. I,m looking for a solution tu use it and protect my whole home-network. My situation now is That i have an Wifi-modem from my Isp(Ziggo) and it also works an an wifi router. so wifi is on and DHCP to. I have a second router (AsusRT-AC86u) wired LAN-WAN at the ISP router in a 2e subnet. Works fine. I have two laptops and last week i saved my dad´s HP pc from schratch. It is a pc from arround 2011. It has an BIOS instead of Eufi. The pc, running win 7 looked nearly dead a an simple windows update took 24 ours to install. My father wanted to bring it to the recycle-center but i was just in time to save him from doing this. I began by completely wipe the hard disk an reformatted it with G-parted, cleaned it inside a drop of oil in the fans and attached 4 GB extra to it. installed Win10pro and now this PC in running like new. So i decided to split the 750 GB hdd in an extra partition from where i am running Linux Mint. I read a bout PFSence and OpnSence earlier and i like the idea to create a setup from where i can Secure my home network without installing al security packages at every device. In my Asus router i have setup a VPN client and thats working fine but i want to have the choice to be after a VPN (with the restrictions it have) and or just go the normal way to the web. Thats why both routers are fully oparational, so i can switch if nessecary. I looked around for ready to use hardware solutions, switches with pfSence but the are to expensive for me. I also have a Rasberry Pi 3B+ but i have the idea that this device is not capable enough to use this for, alltough i read some articles from people who did it.  So my new idea is to use this HP-PC to do it with. But i don´t know how to set it up to get it work as an firewall for my whole network. I mean where to place it. my idea is to place it between my ISP device (turning of wifi and DHCP and set it in Bridge-modus) and my Asus router. I think i can use this pc as a VPN server and client and also setup as a ftp server-client. I would like to have some tips. Is this possible and what do i need for it. I have now only 1 Incoming R45 port no outgoing. I also have a network adapter for wifi(only 2.4Ghz N) I am not really good with command rules open sourse and Powershell neighter. Anyone here with a good idea how to? I like to hear from you.
Greetings from Holland
