Title: no US based HTTPS Mirrors?
Post by: pghpete on May 21, 2019, 04:44:04 pm
Are there any plans to add more US based mirrors or at least a single https mirror based in the US?  I donated to opnsense because I find opnsense to be an incredible project, so thanks for everything! However, what can we do to get https mirrors in the US?

You can set up a server to mirror the data to the us and offer the base URL for public inclusion. Just write a mail to the project@ email address if you plan to do that.

Yeah I would have if that were an option. Unfortunately it is not, hence the post here.

US mirrors might work in HTTPS instead of HTTP. Worth editing the URL to see so change to "(other)" to edit it manually.

That being said HTTPS offers marginal benefits. These do not necessarily include privacy or integrity.

privacy: the contents of the mirror is static, people will be able to figure out what you download and how much of it.

integrity: everything is signed and verified with RSA keys.

Cheers,
Franco

Makes sense Franco. I'll try with HTTPS manually.
