Title: May I ask something pls?
Post by: matain on February 27, 2019, 11:13:58 am
Hi everyone! I’m new here
I'm a new convert from IPFire and am looking for a way to monitor my Internet connection and possibly show a history.  My ISP has a habit of dropping the connection and I would like to know when and for how long it was down.  I can then take this information and get a discount on my monthly bill.  I looked around OPNSense a bit but couldn't see anything that might do what I need.  Is there a plugin that might solve this problem?  Or perhaps it's already built into the core product and I don't know how to get to it.. (https://worldsteroids.net/ufa365%E0%B8%94%E0%B8%B5%E0%B9%84%E0%B8%AB%E0%B8%A1/)
Thank in advance.

I run smokeping for the same purpose, but not on OPNsense.

It will run quite happily on a raspberry pi though.

When you enable your System: Gateway: Single: Default Gateway's gateway monitoring you can see WAN quality graphs in the Reporting: Health section that tracks your WAN quality.

...just to add: Enter "9.9.9.9" in field "Monitor IP" on the page Franco mentioned in his post above and press "Save" to enable monitoring.

If you want to catch all short service interruptions by your provider it might be necessary to print out/screenshot the "Reporting"-> "Health" -> "Quality" output every other day or so, as the time axis is not fully customizable, iirc... :-)
