Title: Upgrade from 18.7.10_4 to 19.1.1 fails
Post by: c-mu on February 14, 2019, 12:46:29 pm
Hi,
in my HA setup, I'm running 18.7.10_4 on both devices. Now i'm trying to upgrade the backup device to 19.1.1 and it fails.

The upgrade itself runs without any problem. But if the new version boots up, i'dont have any network connection, so I can only login to the console, the webui is not available. Ping/ssh does not work.

I have to boot the backup snapshot to get it running again.

any suggestions what I can do? I dont know what information I can provide.

happend to me too.
The very short version:

sha256 check
Unzip
Take usb stick and clean with:
diskpart, list disks, select disks (‼ be sure its the USB stick), clean

Use rufus to create bootable image: dd image (the extracted opnsense file), GBT UEFI, 8192(default),fat32

Login with installer and pw opnsense
Install

Connect via cable to 192.168.1.1
Login with root and your pw from the install process
Restore backup
Modify your needed variables in tunables via the GUI or set in /boot/loader.conf.local

Now I'm trying 19.1.2, same result.

But I'm able to access the firewall on a specific network interface. all other interfaces are with status "up" but are'nt able to do any network traffic. At this point, I dont have any clue why.

For notice: If I roll back the vm to 18.7, all interfaces are up and running.

Are you restoring your configuration from 18.7 to 19.1?  If you are restore one part at a time, it could be that the restore is hosing up your interface configs?

No, I'm using the upgrade process. The config it self looks like it should be after the upgrade, but the most interfaces dont get any traffic. they are up and running, but don't get any packets.
I also compared if there is a mismatch with mac addresses, if the interaces changed internaly, but everything is fine.

Reset to Factory defaults with restoring the config does not change the situation.

I will now rollback my snapshot :-/

finally I could solve the problem: it's an VLAN issue. Changed all vlan interfaces to "native".

This sounds like it could be related to my issue.
