Title: PPPoE: No IPv4 after reconnect if IPv6 is enabled
Post by: iam on February 10, 2019, 08:44:00 am
Hi,

I've a some stability issues with the PPPoE connection if IPv6 is enabled. Mostly the interface has no IPv4 anymore after the scheduled reconnect. IPv6 is still working afterwards.

Here are the logs:

The problem also existed in 18.7.

I've tested it with this options:
Code: [Select]
IPv6 Configuration Type: DHCPv6
Prefix delegation size: 60
Send IPv6 prefix hint
Use IPv4 connectivity

Best,

Title: Re: PPPoE: No IPv4 after reconnect if IPv6 is enabled

I disabled IPv6 on Sunday again in the interface settings. But afterwards there was still a working IPv6 connection. And today is already the second day with a working internet connection.

So maybe the problem occurs more sporadic in 19.1. Or the problem is triggered only via the IPv6 settings and not via the IPv6 connection itself. Or of course it can also be random.

The connection was stable for two additional days. After that I "activated" IPv6 again. After that the problems occurred again.

Is there nobody else who tries to use IPv6 over a PPPoeE connection?

Mine is rock solid:

DHCPv6
request prefix unticked
prefix size 56
send hint
send solicit
prevent release
use ipv4 connection

LAN has a fixed address from a /64 in my range, RADVD set to high, advertising internal DNS. The WAN is not showing an IPv6 in the dashboard, but dpinger sees an fe80:x:y:z%pppoe router and everybody on the LAN can watch the kame dance on www.kame.net.  8)

Thank you I'll test your configuration.

Seems that this helps. The connection was stable until today. I've updated to 19.1.2.

Optical this similar to this situation: No IPv6 gateway is shown in the GUI.

So maybe the gateway monitoring is causing the problem?

Unluckily I haven't checked this before the update. So maybe the following problem exist also before:

After the reboot there was no IPv6 connection. Also the IPv6 connection type was set to "none". After changing and applying the configuration the IPv6 connection is working. But the IPv6 connection type shown in the GUI is "none" again.

So either there is a new bug in 19.1.2 or the option "Prevent release" is causing this error. I assume the last one. But as already said, I haven't checked this before the upgrade.

After updating to 19.1.4 I've re-enabled it again. Now IPv6 is shown as active in the interface settings. Also there is a IPv6 gateway shown in the web interface.

Today the connection was broken again.

Seems to be a bug in OPNsense: If IPv6 is official enabled, the IPv4 connection isn't stable.

The issue is still remaining in 19.1.9. I try it now with patch 2806a0c.

This time both PPPoE and OpenVPN was working. But the status of OpenVPN wasn't show correctly in the dashboard. After a reboot the status was the same.

Today the PPPoE connection was totally down. I've reverted the patch
