Hi,
Bit of background why i'm migrating
Earlier this week my pfsense stopped providing internet access to clients and even to its own web interface, at first i thought it had powered off, but no it was just dead to internal network but could ping outside world. Even defaulting and restoring from an earlier configuration never worked.
I downloaded the latest usb vga installer, replaced my hdd (as knew that had some dodgy sectors) and proceeded to install it, but it just would not boot after the menu (just stuck on booting), so here i am now installing opensense.
I downloaded the opensense usb vga installer and booted from this and it started up without any issues, I logged in as installer and let the system perform its install, removed the usb stick on reboot and hey-presto it's up and running (not connected up to use as router yet as thought would configure it all first)
I've seen the install information for configuring my settings for sky fibre in uk, but under pfsense i had a lot of devices configured so always assigned the same ip address (some can't be configured with static ip's so this was best way to permanently assign them under dhcp), so got to get those setup again.
But biggest query is, we have multiple xbox's in the house will the setup used on pfsense be same on opensense, so i can setup aliases and then have the firewall rules setup to use the alias name. I also have aliases configured for other devices so can setup blocking of internet at certain times or manually for those users.
Is it just a point of looking at the old config for pfsense and then manually entering into opensense, or can some settings be automatically ported across.
update:
well i've been looking through all the how-tos's and setup looks to be very similar to pfsense once i get configuring the system, if it weren't for pfsense making my perfectly working hardware obsolete due to it not having aes-ni and no longer working with my network ports i would probably not moved across, but i must be honest and say the interface looks fresh and clean and hoping that my hardware will be supported for some time...
