Title: upgrade to 18.7 stuck
Post by: pve on November 23, 2018, 07:30:46 pm
Hi all,

Upgrading to 18.7 seems to have stopped.
Started the upgrade from the browser gui and it hasn't finished yet .. 2 hours later.

I can still login via ssh when I get the banner that it is on 18.7 now.
However it hasn't rebooted.

What makes it more difficult to troubleshoot is that I can't su to root anymore. It throws the following

$ su -
Password:
sh: /usr/local/sbin/opnsense-auth: not found
su: Sorry
$

What are my options here.. ? Anyone got a suggestion  other than to powercycle it and see if it hopefully comes up again ;-) ?

thx..

rgds,

Peter

uh oh!

I am right here with you.
Been trying to get the 18.6 HBSD installed and working and when I did I got the stuck update/upgrade also.
I get a 403 forbidden on the gui and can not ssh into anything though.
Funny part is I can still access the internet from everything.

Did you end up powering down and rebooting and if so what happened?

How about saving your current configuration then doing a clean install and importing the configuration into that?

I did just that to come against this update/upgrade dead end.

I'm going to leave it go and get some sleep here and reinstall and restore one more time but I think i will download the 18.6    11.2 HBSD again and make sure again it's a good download to burn to a stick.

Well I left it in the state it is/was overnight... All services still work (dhcp/dns etc..) except for the openvpn server.
Although ifconfig shows the ovpns1 interface in running state ..

So I am not touching it for now as it is in kind of a stable state for the last 18 hours ;)

Can take a backup without root access by the way ?  After that I will attempt to do a reinstall and restore from backup I guess...

I first need to create/configure a replacement for this one ...

Cheers,

Peter

ok i got it.

The original download and stick were and are just fine.

Do a clean Install of 18.6 HBSD

DO the update/upgrade making sure to use production to 18.7.8

Now after the reboot you can switch to development and update/upgrade to 19.1.b_306

Now after the reboot you can use your backed up config to restore.

At least this worked for me.

Package Name                                        Current Version                                New Version          Required Action
base                                                        19.1.b                                                18.7.6                  upgrade
