Hi,
Just so I am clear on this.
To use clamav to scan live I would need to use a proxy server located on a different system correct? This would be using the fresh clam definitions and not i-cap.
I have done searches and my old eyes hurt from the reading and so far it has not been clear about using clamav to scan and whether theres a need for a separate machine for running the proxy.

Proxy is already preinstalled on OPNsense? You just need C-ICAP plugin and Clamav

Are you asking me if a proxy is pre installed?
And I DO NOT want to use ICAP

ICAP is the protocol for proxy to talk with AV .. how would you like to do this without it?
-
That was the main question.
Is a proxy that is located on another system and not on OPNsense box required?
-
Can I ask why you do not want to use ICAP?

this is my question.

My question isn't why I don't want to use icap for now. I may get around to using icap and a proxy but for now I want to keep it simple and if using a icap later is the answer due to needing to use a second system just for a proxy for clam then I will use icap.
question is still.

Squid can only talk to ClamAV via ICAP, no matter if Proxy runs on OPNsense or a Linux or whatevery.
Your Proxy, your ICAP or even you ClamAV can run on any system, local or remote, in any combination.
But if you want a virus scanner, you need ICAP.
Now everything clear?

That answered the question, thank you.
