Title: PIE AQM
Post by: samsonmcnulty on November 20, 2018, 05:43:11 am
Hello all.
I have noticed that PIE is an advanced option in the Shaper now. https://forum.opnsense.org/index.php?topic=6948.0 (https://forum.opnsense.org/index.php?topic=6948.0)
Since the Wiki hasn't been updated in a while, can someone give me a rundown of the little differences? I've read over https://datatracker.ietf.org/doc/rfc8033/?include_text=1 (https://datatracker.ietf.org/doc/rfc8033/?include_text=1) but I'm fuzzy on the practical, real-world effects of the method.

It's more for experienced users and global documentation is low. Better to keep with CoDel if you are at the beginning

A bit of low level documentation was added via https://github.com/opnsense/src/commit/f877f7754e345d8 -- you can read it from your box:

# man 8 ipfw

Unfortunately it only describes what AQM can do, not how it works in general. Maybe the official page can help, though...
