Title: Good Idea to Use Q6600?
Post by: darkarn on September 04, 2018, 09:54:48 PM
Hi, I somehow found a Q6600 with working mobo (Asus P5KR) and 8 GB of RAM for it in my house, even along with a spare PSU, spare dual Intel NIC card and casing!

I am wondering if this is a good candidate for a OPNsense rig; am thinking of deploying it in a place that will have 500 up/down connection at most and would only need to block some ports at most (i.e. suricata and snort not required). Wireless connectivity and switching are being handled by a separate wireless access point.

Thanks!

if you don't mind the power consumption it might be ok
