Hi all,
the only way I can contribute to the project right now is to report about my first steps and stumblestones
to implement an OpnSense Captive Portal Firewall Solution on an Intel NUC.
1) I don't want to discuss why I used an intel Nuc - I do have my reasons :)
2) The device is quite cheap - with 4GB of RAM w.o. HD for < 150€
3) The NUC comes with a 1GB NIC and a Wifi / Bluetooth Network-Card --> not found by OpnSense / freeBSD yet,
it has a 4 Core Intel Celeron j3455 inside which is quite bored from a normal captive portal via a VLAN :) and an
SD-Card slot included which is bootable from bios but gets stuck in the opnSense boot process
4) Installation via an USB Stick is easily running through the process when having a 2.5" HD (found one) inside
5) Installation via the NANO Image on an SD Card was not successfull yet due to general boot problems
6) After configuration of 3 VLANs attaching WAN, LAN and OPT1 to it, runs quite well:
6.1) Throughput with the captive portal on an old WIFI Router/Switch running LEDE reaches physical limit of
100MBit --> Enough for (me) Internet sharing of a 100MBit line
6.2) Dashboard attached
6.3) When having more experience I will report
