Title: no disks detection but disks detected on 26.7 installation
Post by: JL on October 08, 2026, 06:41:17 PM
using 26.7 DVD ISO I'm trying to install on the OPNsense VM, choosing auto-install ZFS shows 'no disks detected' while choosing manual install shows both disks and partitions

Try to wipe the disks, first.

Please explain again what you are trying to achieve and what is the nature of those disks. There is an OPNsense installation on those, already? Then why are you trying to install?

Is this a virtual machine? How exactly are those disks configured? AHCI, VirtIO, NVMe? What is the hypervisor? If it's hardware, more or less same question without VirtIO and hypervisor.

Strictly speaking you can only import /conf if you even chose to do so.  The logs in /var are always deleted anyway with the rest of whatever happened to be on the disk before.

I have a hard time understanding what you mean with "if you even chose to do so" You mean like people are expected to manually reconfigure the entire firewall after each forced reinstall?

There are no forced reinstalls. If you still need to reinstall, because you broke your installation somehow, or the SSD failed, or you are switching hardware ... you have an offline configuration backup, right? Install, connect the new firewall at 192.168.1.1, restore configuration, done.

First of all: relax.

Then: no, of course not.  Use the config importer availabe in the installer to import the /conf directory of your prior install on the same disk before installing or save a config.xml of your old machine and use that post-install as a full import.
