Title: 26.7 WireGuard "required IPv4 interface address could not be found"
Post by: dthespoon on August 13, 2026, 02:21:45 PM
Really sorry for reaching the point that all my attempts to diagnose have come to nought so I now need to bother people here.

I recently did the upgrade from 26.1 to 26.7, did all my due diligence, checked and pre-fixed any breaking changes I could identify from documentation, read up on the foibles people were experiencing and prepped for them, took backups and clones etc. etc. but I am now experiencing a problem that I can't seem to find anybody else is experiencing from reading through the forums and searching elsewhere.

I have an always on WireGuard connection to Privado VPN for some traffic that was setup using the following guide: https://docs.opnsense.org/manual/how-tos/wireguard-selective-routing.html

this has worked flawlessly for multiple versions of OPNsense for many years but following the upgrade it just will not start, I keep getting the error:

/usr/local/sbin/pluginctl: The required WGPrivado IPv4 interface address could not be found, skipping.
Looking at the WireGuard status it is handshaking and showing the green tick, the interface is up and showing green but the Gateway just doesn't show a connection, stuck at red. I have double checked the WG instance Gateway IP and it matches the IP assigned in the Gateway config. I have tried new IP addresses for both, I have restored a pre-upgraded image and done the upgrade with legacy firewall still in place and that resulted in the same outcome; I've double checked that all firewall rules import unaltered and not referencing dead on non-existent aliases, gateways or connections.

I'm completely at my wits end so any advice or experience would be greatly appreciated.
