I am using my setup nearly for 1 year or so and up until now I was not having this issue (or I did not realize).
My setup: OPNsense running inside of a VM which hosted by proxmox. I have ethernet card passed thorugh that VM. Cable from ONT directly connected to that ethernet card.
Issue: My connection is dropping and it seems I can not get IP address from KPN. If I restart VM issues resolves but it going down again sometimes 5 mins later sometimes 30 mins later. It is same if I unplug and plug ONT. I checked with AI, it was saying cable might be broken however during these I have never touched cable.

Version:
OPNsense 25.1-amd64
FreeBSD 14.2-RELEASE
OpenSSL 3.0.15

And why don't you just try to replace it?
Your log show series of interface downs and ups again:

So yes, this might indicates a broken cable connected to igb1 or any other hardware defect on this interface.

Which ONT exactly ?
There were some issues with certain ONT models used by KPN in the past so maybe it's time to replace yours too :)

Because it is hard to replace and just rebooting VM fixes the issue. I hardly believe that the cable is the issue.

I could not find any model number but this: https://ibb.co/9HfLFShq
Like I said, it was working until today.

IIRC that's one of the older models, but you can double check this @ https://gathering.tweakers.net/ in a topic called something like
"Het Grote KPN Glasvezel Topic" or whatever it is these days :)
