Title: WAN Interface Change
Post by: Bishop527 on April 16, 2026, 08:32:43 PM
Hello All,
I'm still in the process of learning OPNsense so I have a quick question. I just update my internet connection from 1G to 2G and added a usb-c 2.5 dongle to the opnsense box, If I want to change the WAN interface from using the 1G port over to the 2.5G dongle is it as simple going into the interface under WAN and deselecting enable interface and prevent interface removal, Go to interface assignments and add the new interface into the group and then replace the WAN interface that's already there and input the new Usb-c 2.5 interface?

If it's a native interface, not pppoe, just go to Interfaces: Assignments, at WAN select the USB adapter and save it.

If it's pppoe, change the adapter in the ppp configuration first. Then select the new one in the assignments settings.

Please don't do this :)

In general the whole USB system is very sensitive to High CPU Load and could cause very strange/unexpected issues because of that...

It's something one should avoid at all times and use PCI/PCIe devices instead !!
