Title: Google Fiber Brige Mode Issues
Post by: shactheorb on February 14, 2026, 04:47:07 PM
Hi, I'm a bit of a noob with opensense, so sorry if I'm missing something obvious. I recently got Google Fiber installed and while I'm a big fan of it so far, their configuration interface is a bit lacking. I'd like to put their provided router in bridge mode and use opnsense if possible.

I set up an opnsense router and set up my WAN and LAN interfaces. Then I followed the Google Fiber bridge mode instructions, which is to keep the gfiber WAN connected and connect the gfiber 10Gbps LAN port to the WAN port on the opnsense, and then put the gfiber router in bridge mode. However, I couldn't get anything to work in this configuration.

(google fiber bridge mode guide I was referencing https://gfiber.com/support/en/answer/1924/)

Is there anything else I need to set up in opnsense to get this to work? Or possibly something I'm misunderstanding? Thanks!

I am not sure what you are trying to do right now :
- Reach the Google Router in Router Mode from you OPNsense LAN ?
This is not possible because both use 192.168.1.x/24 by default as far as I can tell from some of the Google documents via the link you have provided !!
- Trying to get a working Internet connection while the Google Router is already in Bridge Mode ?

What does Google use for the Internet connection ?
Just DHCP or does it need a specific VLAN too ?

If the google thingy uses 192.168.1.0/24 you must change your OPNsense LAN to a different network.
