Title: Would a warning in the change log be appropriate?
Post by: lgrant on December 24, 2025, 12:25:30 AM
Last night I installed the 25.10.1_2 update. I got the usual FreeBSD messages as each part was downloaded and installed. When I got to package 22/78, the display froze. Refreshing the display, I got a "403 Forbidden" message. I tried to SSH into the router, but it would not accept the password. Eventually, the screen refreshed, and I got a message that said the update was complete and the router was rebooting. After the reboot, all was good.

I was wondering if it would be appropriate to have a message in the change log that mentioned that this would happen.

I have had trouble with the last to major release upgrades where the upgrade never finished, and I had to reinstall OPNsense from scratch.

The router is not in a convenient location to access, and it was 2:00 am (I have to wait till everybody is off the network before I upgrade), so I was worried that I would have to do another manual reinstall before everyone got back on the network. A note in the readme could have saved me some stress.
