Title: Running OPNsense on the go
Post by: matsoon on December 04, 2025, 10:24:07 AM

Hey everyone
I've been messing around with a small OPNsense setup for when I'm out of the office, just a lightweight firewall on a battery-powered box. So far, it's holding up pretty well. VPN connects fine, rules are simple, and I can actually see what's happening without running a full server behind it. It's kinda nice knowing you can keep things secure even when you're off-grid or in a sketchy Wi-Fi spot. Makes me think it could be handy even for longer trips where you're basically self-sufficient — just a little extra peace of mind, nothing crazy. Curious if anyone else runs a tiny setup like this, maybe with minimal monitoring or tricks to keep it stable on battery. Would love to hear what works for you.

I am interested in what low power device are you using and what is the WiFi component?
