Title: Replacement for SoftEther
Post by: bernd on November 04, 2025, 06:43:50 AM
Hello, I recently switched from a Synology-Router to OPNsense. On the Synology-Router I had a SSL-VPN (which uses SoftEther) which enabled me to connect from a company GuestNetwork to my own Server without issues. On my new OPNsense setup I installed OpenVPN on port 443/TCP which works fine as long as I don't use that GuestNetwork. On that GuestNetwork I always get drops/reconnect every 4s. My guess is that since the OpenVPN SSL packages differ from normal https accesses, the firewall interferes.
What VPN solution do you suggest? Should I setup an external VPN-server that uses SoftEther behind the OPNsense firewall in its own network segment (with the web-server), or should I use stunnel with OpenVPN?

Thanks a lot for you help, best regards,
Bernd
