Title: Newbie Looking for HW recommendation
Post by: Anviori on October 14, 2025, 04:30:48 PM
I did a bit of digging, and the Topton brand seems to be popular.
I'm looking to use OPNsense for a home network. Nothing complicated, but would like room to expand in the future.
Is this a good Mini-PC for my use case: Topton Mini PC 2x10G SFP+ 2xi226-V 2.5G N150 (http://mini%20pc%202x10g%20sfp+%202xi226-v%202.5g%20intel%203%20n355%20n305%20n150%20n100)?

Your link has no destination. Based on the descriptive text, it would be fine.

As a general case, if the purpose is to be a firewall/router then you need less than you think you do.

Specifically if you do not need 10G now, go for a device with 4x 1G, perhaps.

Copper SFP+ run awfully hot. So unless you need 10G fiber, go for more 1G or 2.5G copper ports.

the 10G is x520, from what I been seeing x520 paired with i226v a lot.

I got one that is 3x 226 + 2x x520. I will use the 10G as .1q to a small cisco poe+ managed switch. As of now I am using just two 226's, lan/wan config. I have to make some changes with new wifi being installed.
