Title: Anyone tried NetBird 1.0 Plugin?
Post by: matthias_e on September 13, 2025, 11:33:24 PM
I had just updated to 2.7.3_4 the other day and saw that the NetBird plugin was now 1.0 and figured I'd give it a shot.  I am fairly new to OPNSense so please be patient with me.  It does not seem to be working.  I signed up for a Netbird account and got a setup key.  I put the key into the field in OPNsense but it always comes back a few seconds later with "NetBird is not connected".  I reinstalled the two packages.  I'm not sure where to go from here.  I have seen no posts in the forum recently so I figured I'd see if anyone else had even got the new plugin to work.

Under status it says:
Daemon version: undefined
CLI version: undefined
Management: Disconnected

Just gave it a go and ran into the same issue. The source of the issue is that the NetBird service is not started after installation.

I was able to start NetBird by running 'service netbird onestart' from the OPNsense command line first. Then 'Connect' and so on. It works for me even after rebooting the OPNsense VM.

The other option is to enable the plugin after installation and reboot.

I'd say that is a bug in the plugin.

Also: I don't think recommend the default WireGuard port 51820 in the plugin is a good idea. It will be confusing for users that want to use pure WireGuard, which will be again using the same port
